Play dough recipe
An all-time favourite, the humble ball of coloured modelling dough can be made in your very own kitchen. You can never have too much of this wonderful stuff, so here you go!
You will need:
- 4 cups of flour
- 1 cup of salt
- 1/2 cup of water with a tiny drop of food colouring (optional)
- 4 tablespoons of oil
- 1/2 cup of cream of tartar
Simply combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and mix! (You may need some elbow grease as you knead and pull but it will work!).
Try adding glitter and sand to your play dough as this will increase the tactile stimulation of this play. Want some new ideas for playing with your creation – why not try using some new tools like plastic cutlery, shoe laces, rulers, geometry triangles, pipe cleaners, straws, paper plates, plastic or children’s pizza cutters, a garlic press, melon baller, rolling pins, clothes pegs and cookie cutters to name a few!
At PlayLabs we like to use flour and sieves to give a baking feel. The mix should keep in the fridge in a plastic bag or tub for over a week.
