Family Day – Tree Bark Art

Explore Yvonne McGuinness’ Ground Floor Gallery exhibition ‘Holding ground where the woodlands’. Feel, smell and see the trees and video installation, then make and recreate the greens, browns and reds of a forest collage using our tree rubbings, paper, glue and chalks.

Sunday Sketching – Winter Landscape

Winter is still around, and why not spend some time in the gallery to look at the painting of Gustave Courbet and draw your imaginary Winter Landscape during this Sunday Sketching session with artist Barbara O’Connell.

During these free sketching workshops for families, we invite you to explore and respond together to our collection and temporary exhibitions through discussion and drawing. Bring your own sketchbook or avail of the drawing materials provided.

Our aim is to make the works on display fun and engaging for kids and to welcome families and visitors of all ages and encourage them to feel comfortable in the gallery rooms

Czech Philharmonic Family Concert

Dvořák, the story-teller featuring The Golden Spinning Wheel, Op. 109

Whether looking for jazz in a Stravinsky score, explaining a Mahler symphony, or picking out harmonies in a Stevie Wonder song, Jonathan James enjoys finding the right way in for the listener and leaving them with a new-found enthusiasm for the music. This family concert will take the audience on a journey through Dvořák’s vivid musical telling of the macabre but romantic Czech folk tale, complete with a king, a beautiful girl, her wicked step-sister, a magician and his magical golden spinning wheel!

Early Years Workshops: My Town

Visual artist Jane Groves invites you to investigate a sense of place in this hands-on experience for the very young and their grown-ups. The session is structured to inspire young imaginations through stories and the playful building of a dream city. There will be places to plant flowers, build towers and the chance to paint the town red, green and purple!

Goldilocks and the three bears

Imagine a storybook that comes alive! Miriam Lambert, is delighted to present “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” where the story comes alive within her original two-tier puppet booth. Peek and Boo, Miriam’s signature characters guide the children to the tale of a little girl who pays a visit to the home of the adorable baby bear!

Miriam Lambert has been at the heart of the Irish puppetry industry since her childhood, having grown up with the Lambert Puppet Theatre in Dublin. Trained by her mentor and father, the late Master puppeteer Eugene Lambert, she has played an integral part in the creation of many of the legendary puppet characters and performances in the renowned Lambert productions. Miriam has developed her own unique signature shows which have taken her to Europe, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan and the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC. She is the quintessential travelling ‘one-woman show’ who can travel anywhere with her entire show in a ‘bag’. Her unique and creative style of puppetry is a theatrical joy for both child and adult to behold.
