Secret Garden Saturdays: Botanical Drawing

Above the hustle and bustle of Temple Bar is its best-kept secret…The Ark’s top floor workshop & garden! Join artist Jane Groves for a series of visual art workshops inspired by what you can see and hear out there.

To start the series off, these workshops for ages 5-7 will create beautiful paintings using nature’s toolbox. In this workshop you will experience the surprising tools and materials you might find in your garden and use them to make your own natural artworks. Investigate the potential of sticks, stones and feathers to make marks and explore vibrant watercolours and dusty charcoal.

Precious gifts and where to find them

Archaeologists often find precious objects under the ground. Is everything found at the same depth? Call into the museum to find out! Create a special bookmark, decorate it with precious objects and decide if they should be close to the surface, or deep underground.

Children’s drawing workshop with illustrator Chris Judge

Award-winning illustrator Chris Judge will lead this children’s drawing workshop in the City Assembly House. Inspired by the paintings in the exhibition, children will draw their own colourful masterpiece, which will be framed for them to take home. Parents are welcome to join in!

Humpty Dumpty’s Big EggVenture

For the first time ever, the classic nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty is brought to the stage in this wonderful

Autism-friendly workshop

Join us for a free autism-friendly workshop for children, inspired by the work of Irish artist Harry Clarke. The workshop is suitable for children of primary school age and will take place in a low-lit space that displays Harry Clarke’s beautiful stained-glass artworks.

Parents, guardians and carers are encouraged to work with children on this creative project which will explore colour, shape and texture through drawing and craft activities.

Places are limited, so advance booking is essential. Ticket holders will be sent the Gallery’s social guide, in advance, to assist with preparation for the visit.

Please note: Booking required for children; parents, guardians and carers who wish to accompany their children do not need to reserve a space.

Gymnastics summer camp

This year our summer camps will be held in our fully-equipped gymnastics facility at The Clayton Hotel, Liffey Valley. Whether your child has been to our classes before or is a beginner, these camps are ideal for boys and girls, who would like to improve, learn new skills and have a great gymnastics experience. Participants are grouped according to age & ability.

New parent’s tour

These tours are for parents, guardians, and carers of young children and will focus on a selection of highlights in the permanent collection. Our aim is to welcome families and visitors of all ages and encourage them to feel comfortable in the Gallery rooms.

The route is suitable for prams and strollers, and all are welcome.

Ever wanted to start your very own dried plant collection? Get great tips and discover how you can become a plant collector! Join our guides on an expedition through the Botanic Gardens, identifying and collecting suitable plants for pressing before constructing your very own flower press. If you like, you can also create some beautiful botanical designs with our pre-dried plants.

Wood Quay Summer Sessions

The Wood Quay Summer Sessions return for a third year of free concerts from 1pm to 2pm every Thursday throughout July. Every week, music fans will have the opportunity to see new and upcoming acts, as well as established acts, from across a wide range of genres performing in the wonderful setting of the outdoor Wood Quay Amphitheatre in Dublin’s city centre.

Everyday Superpowers: Cape-Making Workshop with artist Michelle Hall

Join us for a fun afternoon of cape-making to celebrate our everyday superpowers! Using only the brightest and shiniest of materials we will combine fabric with sticky vinyl cut-outs and foil pieces to adorn our glorious capes! At the end of our workshop we will practice our superpower struts and poses before taking a walk through the gallery in our flowing capes to show off our amazing superpowers!

Michelle Hall is an artist who works with a variety of materials and processes to produce videos, performances and installations. She graduated from the NCAD MA Art in the Contemporary World programme in 2016 and with a BA Fine Art from DIT in 2007. She is the recipient of this year’s RHA Fingal Arts Office Studio Award and has exhibited her work in Ireland and in various locations across Europe.
