Take a look at the family friendly events happening in and around Dublin over the next week for you to enjoy.
Please check that they are still running before setting out, as sometimes even the best events have to be postponed.


Family Day: Salt Painting Is Awesome

Starting with a blank page, our artists will show you how to create shapes using glue … circles, lines, anything you feel inspired by. Then sprinkle with salt and watch the magic happen. Why not visit our exhibition for some inspiration, where there are many processes, materials, styles and subjects to explore.

Dress for Mess. Unless otherwise stated workshops are designed for children from 5-10 years, though younger and older siblings are welcome to take part. Please be aware that Draíocht’s Family Days are not designed for groups. All children must be accompanied by an adult and all adults must be accompanied by a child!


Magical Photo Collage

Inspired by Mark Dion’s exhibition we will create nature based objects and work with collage and magical Cyanotype paper during this art workshop

Children’s Art Workshops – 13th April

Budding Artists
Join our ‘budding’ artists, a creative workshop especially for younger children taking place once a month, under the attentive eye of artist Niamh Synnott. Children are encouraged to take a closer look at the natural world all around them to inspire fun art-making activities.

Suitable for 4 to 7 year olds.

Hardy Annuals 
Why not join us for a guided discovery of the natural world where you can observe, engage, and be inspired by your surroundings. Participants in this art programme will be encouraged to use materials in fun and interesting ways while taking inspiration from the world of plants on show at Glasnevin.

Suitable for 8 to 12 year olds.
Time: 2.00pm – 4.00pm. Meet at the Education and Visitor Centre

Easter Kids’ Drop-by Activities

Join us for fun spring time garden activities in the dedicated Children’s Erasmus Education Garden! Check out our Facebook page to find out the week’s activity in advance.

Rathwood’s Easter EGGperience 

Watch out… Freddy Fox is back and will be causing Havoc this Easter at Rathwood.

The Easter bunny doesn’t know what to do… But Little Red Riding Hood is here to help. She knows EGGactly what Freddy the Fox is like and will be able to save Easter but only with your help…

Join the Easter Bunny for story time, you will get to hear about all the adventures the Easter bunny has been up to since last year. 

Join Little Red Riding Hood on an adventure through the enchanted forest searching for Freddy Fox, with the mission of saving Easter.  

Next up, The biggest Easter egg hunt we have ever had watch out and collect the missing eggs for the Easter Bunny. That’s not all, once the Egg’s are all collected there will be a reward for the boys and girls. It’s time to open your imaginations and get crafty!!

Don’t worry it is Easter and of course as long as everything goes to plan we will be back up to visit the Easter Bunny to collect a lovely Chocolate Easter Egg!!

Make a Family Flag

Use a combination of leaf prints and natural dyes to create a special flag for your family to take home. Get creative and see what colours you can make with natural materials and use different leaves to make pictures on your flag!

Solar Powered Bunny-BOTS @ Cool Planet!

Kids will love this Easter workshop where their challenge is to design & make their very own solar-powered Bunny-Bot. 

Your creative innovators will have great fun seeing how these jittery-jumpy bunnies generate electricity from light – energy transfer (younger kids) & engineering design (older kids)!

Printlab workshop for families

During this workshop, families will learn about and explore the basic principles of letterpress printing. They will discover how, through working together as a family and combining letterpress and new technologies with tinkering and making, they can collectively express themselves in a fun and creative way.

Brilliant Brooches

There are some beautiful brooches to be seen at the Museum, from the famous ‘Tara’ Brooch of Early Christian times, to brooches worn by Viking women, and even brooches given as love tokens in medieval times. Drop into the Museum to see the beautiful pins and brooches discovered in 2016 and displayed n the new ‘Dressed to Impress’ exhibit, learn about the people who made these brooches, then make your own brooch to take home!

Pitter Patter and Paint: Hand and Footprint Session

This Easter break we’ll be making some lovely family memories here at the IFHC! In this baby hand and footprint session, come along with your little one and get creative with us.

Whether you would like to make hand or fingerprint family trees, or birds or butterflies, we’ll have lots of ideas to help create lovely memories and family stories for the future. We’ll be on hand to help with any tiny hands and feet, and creative toddlers are welcome to come up with their own designs!

Cost includes all materials, and each ticket includes one canvas board. Art work can be brought home on the same day.

Be sure to wear old clothes as it’s going to be a creative and colourful morning!

Spaces are limited so pre-booking is mandatory for this event.

Easter Sounds Of Spring With The Mobile Music Machine

In this interactive string quartet concert for all the family we feature works inspired by spring!  Hear extracts from the Four Seasons by Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Mozart’s “spring” quartet and other well-known works.

See nature through the eyes of the composers and learn how they lived; learn about the instruments in the quartet, and interact with the melodies and rhythms of the music in a fun and interactive musical experience for the whole family.

Weight-to-Go! Make your own Viking Weight

Did you know that before there were coins in Ireland, the Vikings used to trade in silver? Drop into the Museum to learn about the weighing scales and decorated lead weights the Vikings used to figure out how much silver they had, discover who the Vikings were trading with, then make your own weight to take home!

Have a cracker of an Easter at Croke Park

Your little chickens are guaranteed a basket load of fun as they follow clues around the iconic Stadium. They will have to keep their eyes peeled and listen closely to the guide’s fascinating stories of Croke Park and the GAA if they want to complete the hunt successfully and earn their reward of a delicious Cadbury’s Easter egg at the end.

The unmissable Easter ‘eggs’perience includes a guided tour of the famous stadium, a fun Easter egg hunt, and a visit to the GAA Museum! Your childrens’ heads will be jam packed with fun facts and exciting memories long after the chocolate stains have been wiped off their little faces!
