And the winners are…! Simple games for baby that have stood the test of time!
Our grandparents were right all along, some of the best games for babies are the ones we already know! Not only are the games below the ones we might have played, but they are all teaching babies something new. Take a look at the list below and see what you recognise:
Peek-a-Boo: Teaches baby that objects out of sight still exist and can be found
Pat-a-Cake: Babies learn to clap both hands together with this game “pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, bakers man, bake me a cake as fast as you can” is an excellent rhyme to chant with baby.
Oops!: This game can be played with lots of different toys but works best with building blocks. Build a tower of blocks with baby and let him knock them down. This game teaches cause and effect – that actions have consequences. And it’s lots of fun!
This Little Piggy: Say “This Little Piggy Went to Market” while tugging baby’s tiny toes. Baby will start to anticipate the tickle at the end of this rhyme that teaches body awareness. “Round and round the garden” has the same outcome and is also great fun!
So Big!: Babies love it when you lift their arms up high and exclaim “How big are you? You are so big!” Once your child has learned this game, lift your hands up high and let your child stretch his own arms way upward as you exclaim, “Sooo big!” this game teaches your baby about size and body awareness
